R.E.D January - a fantastic way to start the New Year!
South Lakeland Mind are proud to have teamed up with R.E.D January this year to offer people in the South Lakes a fantastic way to start the New Year.

R.E.D January stands for ‘Run Every Day’ in January – but this challenge is about personal achievement. Whether you choose to run, walk, (even Nordic Walk) cycle or dance your way through the month, you pick your own personal active challenge.

Physical activity can be very beneficial for our mental wellbeing as well as our physical wellbeing, and if you have a mental health problem the health benefits of getting physically active are even more significant.

31 consecutive days. Your choice, your challenge.

You can take part in R.E.D January and fundraise directly for South Lakeland Mind by registering below to kick-start your year in a positive and healthy way, helping to make a difference to people’s lives, including your own.

“Not only is R.E.D January a brilliant way to kick-start the New Year, but in taking part you are helping to raise awareness and open up the conversation about mental health”.

By kick-starting your year with R.E.D, you will help boost your physical and mental health. You will also raise vital funds for South Lakeland Mind to provide new opportunities for the local community to try a wide range of new opportunities to improve their wellbeing - recognising that the benefits of being active are even greater for those living with mental ill health. Participants and sponsors will all be contributing to our aim of ensuring that everyone living with mental ill health receives the support and respect they deserve.

Every amount you raise will truly make a huge difference to someone’s life.

What it means to be a R.E.Der:
  • Raising vital funds for South Lakeland Mind’s services
  • Boosting your own mental and physical health
  • Receiving your own R.E.D January running T-shirt
  • Access to downloadable motivational resources
  • You can join the R.E.D January community on Facebook for inspiration
  • This can be the start of setting new challenges for 2018
  • Receiving your R.E.D January medal at the end of the challenge
  • Making a difference to people’s lives including your own.

There’s no doubt exercise is good for you, but it's important to remember that you could be at risk of over exercising.

Exercising is usually a beneficial thing to do for your mental health, and can be helpful as part of a long-term recovery or treatment plan. But there are some situations in which you might need to take extra care in case it starts to become a problem for you.
