SLM's Befriending Service recognised by Mentoring & Befriending Foundation

South Lakeland Mind achieves the Approved Provider Standard for its burgeoning mental health Befriending Service.

Freddie van Gulik, Befriending & Drop Ins Coordinator, shows off the APS certificate.

We are proud to announce that our Befriending Service has made the grade and achieved the Mentoring & Befriending Foundation's 'Approved Provider Standard'.

The Approved Provider Standard is the national quality standard designed specifically for all types of Mentoring and Befriending projects. Services which meet the requirements of the standard are accredited for three years.

Coordinator of the service, Freddie van Gulik, has been working extra hard of the last few months to dot the i's and cross the t's and ensure the service is up to accreditation standards.

The service was measured across 4 key areas: management and operation, service users (befriendees), volunteers (befrienders) and the befriending relationship.

Organisations must show that the service has clear aims and objectives, is safe, appropriate resources are available to sustain it, the needs of befriendees are properly assessed, appropriate induction and training is performed when recruiting befrienders, and there is a clear and consistent matching process, among many other requirements.

We are delighted to have passed with flying colours. Congratulations to Freddie and our dedicated befrienders. Thank you to all our volunteers and clients for your helpful involvement and feedback whilst SLM worked towards accreditation.
