South Lakeland Mind declare 10th March Happy Monday

South Lakeland Mind in Kendal is calling on people in the area to sign up for a new fundraising event, Happy Monday.

Happy Monday takes place on Monday 10th March and is all about people having fun on the week’s least popular day – by hosting their own fundraising events and spending quality time with family, friends and colleagues.

Lots of independent events will take place across the country on Happy Monday, but we at South Lakeland Mind are taking it one step further. We will be holding a week-long online auction in celebration of the event, to be conducted through our website and our Facebook page.

From 9am on 10th March a host of items and services from shops, restaurants and other local businesses will be available to bid upon. This will be a silent auction with the highest bid unknown until the end of each day when we will update our bidders with the highest bid for each item so far. The auction will run until 11:59pm on Sunday 16th March and winners will be informed on the following Monday 17th.

This is a great opportunity to win top notch products from businesses across the South Lakes and support South Lakeland Mind at the same time. We already have offerings from Marks & Spencer, Lakeland, Grange Now and many more. All proceeds will go towards our core services: counselling, befriending, drop in sessions and complementary therapy.

We are asking local businesses to kindly donate an item or service which will be auctioned off throughout the week of 10 – 16 March. If you would like to support us, please get in touch.

And why not hold your own Happy Monday event? There are so many ways to raise money and enjoy yourselves. You could hold a pub quiz, coffee morning or sponsored sports event – whatever you plan on doing, enjoy yourselves and share your happiness with others.

Stephen Fry, President of Mind, said: “I’m hoping the kind people of Britain will roll up their sleeves on March 10th, for Mind’s inaugural Happy Monday. It’s a delightful excuse to spend time with friends and loved ones, or to tempt colleagues away from their desks, to raise vital funds for the 1 in 4 people who experience a mental health problem every year.

“I’ve been inspired to dust off my favourite Honey Buns recipe for Happy Monday and have every faith in the creativity of Mind supporters, to come up with their very own ways to brighten their Monday and raise money for this incredibly good cause.”
